Fall / Gilmore Girls

Why Fall Is The Perfect Time to Watch ‘Gilmore Girls’

September 23, 2023

I will never forgive my best friend for introducing me to “Gilmore Girls.” This was the show she and her mom watched with devotion, tuning in for every weekly episode. Their tradition continued with DVD marathons and, in recent years, Netflix binges. Despite its popularity, I never gave it a shot when it first aired.

But one day in early Fall, my bestie nudged me to give it a go on Netflix. That suggestion marked the start of my deep and enduring love affair (& obsession) with the show. Now, recommending “Gilmore Girls” to someone is one thing, but doing so during the Fall? She knew exactly what she was setting in motion.

It has that magical ability to make you feel like you’re part of their cozy world. Whether it’s the heartwarming family dynamics, the charming community of Stars Hollow, or the witty dialogue, this show wraps you in a cozy blanket of feel-good vibes. Seriously, how dare my best friend expose me to such things…

Fall is the season for comfort, and “Gilmore Girls” is comfort TV at its finest. So, clutch your go-to coffee mug (Lorelai would undoubtedly nod in approval) and delve into why “Gilmore Girls” is the quintessential Fall binge-watch experience! Happy first day of Fall!

The Aesthetics Are Everything

From the opening credits to the whimsical Stars Hollow setting, the show drips with Fall aesthetics. There’s something so comforting about seeing the Gilmore girls walk through the picturesque town square covered in red, orange, and yellow leaves. It’s like stepping into a picture-perfect autumn postcard.

Coffee Cravings Satisfied

Lorelai and Rory’s love for coffee is legendary, and it pairs perfectly with the crisp fall air. Let’s be honest, coffee tastes better when it’s cold outside, and what better excuse to indulge in an extra cup or two than watching Lorelai and Rory’s caffeine-fueled banter? You’re practically obligated to have a warm beverage in hand.

Literary Vibes

Fall often brings to mind the start of a new school year and a return to books and studies. Rory’s love for literature and her countless hours spent in the Stars Hollow library or studying at Yale align with the spirit of the season. It’s the perfect time to dive into some of Rory’s recommended reads with a cup of coffee by your side.

The Cozy Interiors

From the warm ambiance of Luke’s Diner to the intimate corners of the Gilmore house, the interiors in the show always seem to be beckoning for someone to curl up with a book or have a heartfelt conversation. These cozy spots are reminiscent of Fall, where we’re all looking for that snug nook to settle into as the temperatures drop.

Layers, Layers, Layers!

Fall fashion is the best fashion. We all know Lorelai and Rory have an enviable wardrobe full of layered outfits that are perfect for autumn. The cozy sweaters, stylish scarves, and an assortment of boots—Lorelai and Rory’s fall fashion are the ideal inspiration for your autumn wardrobe.

Love for Traditions

Just as we enjoy our Fall traditions like apple picking and pumpkin carving, Stars Hollow shines with its cherished seasonal events. From Dance Marathons to those can’t-miss Town Meetings, the town’s quirky traditions exude autumn allure. Honestly, who wouldn’t want a front-row seat at Taylor Doose’s next gathering? It’s this charm that makes Stars Hollow truly unforgettable.

Lessons in Gratitude

Autumn is the season for giving thanks, and “Gilmore Girls” has so many life lessons on the importance of family, friendships, and community. The emotional story arcs blend seamlessly with the grateful spirit that Fall brings.

A Soundtrack That Screams Fall

From Carole King’s opening theme to the eclectic mix of indie, pop, and oldies, the show’s soundtrack is like the perfect Fall playlist. It’s the cherry on top of the Gilmore sundae!

🍁 As we usher in the first day of Fall, there’s no better time to delve into the world of ‘Gilmore Girls’. If you haven’t had the pleasure of strolling through the charming streets of Stars Hollow with Lorelai and Rory, now’s your moment. I promise it’ll become a cherished fall tradition for your TV binges!

This is one of the best historical fiction books I’ve ever read (listened to, thank you @netgalley). If you have the chance to get your hands on this one, READ IT!

It doesn’t just tell you what happened in history, it truly makes you feel it. It educates you and moves you all at the same time. Thank you @tammyehuf I’ll read anything you write.

My #ThoughtDaughter book stack from July—the month I tried to pick a theme that resonated the most with me. My standouts: Alone With You In The Ether, The Virgin Suicides, and My Year Of Rest and Relaxation which I think about every time I buy an iced coffee and consider buying a second. #bookstagram #bookstack #myyearofrestandrelaxation #alonewithyouintheether
