Thrifty Lit: The Help & Where The Crawdads Sing

I have my main mission these days for constantly stepping foot into thrift stores: Outlander! But before that mission began I had my first love: books-to-film adaptations. So, while my eyes are always searching for ‘Gabaldon’ as soon as I hit the secondhand shelves, I’m also on the lookout for adaptations—and today’s trip did not disappoint at all.

As I scanned the shelves, neck cocked to the side (which, after a while, reallyyy does start to ache), my gaze landed on two books that have been on my ‘To Find List’ for a while: The Help by Kathryn Stockett and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

The feeling of stumbling upon a real literary treasure never gets old. Both books were in perfect condition, hardcover, and priced at just 25 cents each (it’s a Friday special, marked down from the typical 50 cents). It’s like a triple win: adaptation, hardback, and 25 cents. Honestly, it doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

Ok, maybe it could have been better with a sweet handwritten note in the front flyleaf or annotations throughout—but even without all that, I’ll take it as an immaculate win for my thrifted shelves.
