Thrifty Lit: The Best Romance Books to Thrift This Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2025

There’s something extra special about finding the right book at the right time, and this week’s thrift store visit delivered the perfect Valentine’s Day read—Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

I’ve always loved a good love story, and Me Before You is one of those books that lingers long—and I mean loooong—after you turn the last page. It’s deeply emotional, heartfelt, and completely captivating—making it a perfect thrifted find for February!

This post could contain affiliate links, which means I would receive a small commission at no cost to you should you shop using the links.

I still remember when this book first took over everyone’s reading lists (I immediately bought it for my Kindle), and later, when the film adaptation had me—and probably everyone else—reaching for tissues (seriously, the bumblebee tights!).

Now, thanks to a lucky thrift store find this week, I finally have a copy for my shelves—just in time for a cozy Valentine’s season read (depending on how my pre-scheduled February reads go)!

A romantic read for 50 cents? That’s a Valentine’s win in my book.

Romance Novels Worth Thrifting

One of the best parts of thrifting books is coming across beloved romance novels—especially ones that have made their way to the big screen.

Over time, I’ve found some incredible romance books secondhand, and if you’re on the hunt for love stories that have also been adapted into movies, here are a few previously thrifted books from my shelves that are just perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Pride and Prejudice

by Jane Austen: A timeless love story that truly never, ever gets old.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows: Historical romance wrapped in a love for books.

The Notebook

by Nicholas Sparks: Classic, heart-wrenching, and an absolute must-watch.

Something Borrowed

by Emily Giffin: A fun, slightly messy (but very entertaining) love story.

One Day

by David Nicholls: A beautiful, beyond bittersweet romance spanning decades.

The Princess Bride

by William Goldman: Adventure, love, and witty banter—it’s absolute perfection.

Eat Pray Love

by Elizabeth Gilbert: A love letter to self-discovery and the beauty of new beginnings.

As a serial highlighter and tabber, this book would have been ABSOLUTELY COVERED in little tabs if it was a physical copy. My Kindle highlights will have to suffice until pub day (June 2027) because I have so many thoughts.

the ghosts, the art, the wasps, the homewrecking…

This book was strange, sad, funny, beautifully unsettling, and somehow incredibly comforting all at once… and I loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My full review ⚠️with spoilers ⚠️ is up on the blog!

Thank you @netgalley @spiegelandgrau @beckymandelbaum for this amazing ARC!
