flatlay of a thrifted copy of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Thrifted Shelf

Thrifty Lit: Evelyn Hugo, Harry Potter & Agatha Christie

September 20, 2024

This week’s Thrifty Lit haul was an exciting one for me. There’s something magical about browsing secondhand shelves, never quite knowing what you’ll find, and this time, I struck gold.

Not only did I finally get my hands on a book I’ve been relentlessly scanning and scanning thrift store shelves for, but I also picked up two more that hold a special place in my heart.

With a mix of historical fiction, classic mystery, and pure childhood nostalgia, this week’s finds feel like the perfect blend of stories that transport, intrigue, and delight.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (by Taylor Jenkins Reid) felt like an absolute jackpot find! I’ve been searching and searching, and finally stumbling upon a thrifted copy felt like a miracle. This will now be at the top of my TBR.

I found a pristine paperback copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (by J.K. Rowling) Every time I find a Harry Potter book in the wild, I feel the pull to add it to my collection. While this is a paperback edition, my ultimate goal is to thrift a full hardcover set. There’s something special about giving a second life to a well-loved book from such an iconic series.

I literally have zero clue what The Last Séance (by Agatha Christie) is about, but when I find an Agatha Cristie in the wild, I must snatch it up! After all, Ms. Christie, Nancy Drew, and The Olsen Twins’ Mysteries truly paved the way for me and my love of the mystery genre.

“Beauty and the Beast meets organized crime” that was enough for me. Instantly needed to read this. Loved it. Cannot wait for more because the ending? That cliffhanger? How dare you. Happy pub day @sadie_kincaidxx !! ♥️

“All fame cost her was everything.” 🎸✨💋
Darkening Song by Delphine Seddon was such a fun read. When I saw it being placed in the same space as #daisyjonesandthesix I immediately requested this ARC. Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress — I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
