Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne + Finally Flawless Skin

December 1, 2017

Today I am sharing with you my number one way of clearing my acne-prone skin. Apple Cider Vinegar, otherwise known as just ACV. You may have seen articles or heard stories about this popular vinegar and all the good it can supposedly do for you, your home, your family, your health, your cooking, etc…

You may have also passed over these claims and thought “yeah right” or “ew, gross, no way.” The “ew, gross, no way” was my exact thought. Until I tried it. I now use ACV for so many things. My favorite use is for natural beauty remedies. So, what pushed me to finally try this praised item? Acne.

My Struggle with Acne

Since age 16 acne had been my most heartbreaking and never-ending enemy. I tried everything over the counter that would claim clearer skin, to doctor prescribed prescriptions (oral and topical) that would temporarily heal wounds.

I bought into monthly product plans that left me with way too bottles of cleansers and toners and ointments that did nothing for the long term but bleach my bedding and bath towels.

I would watch T.V. commercials of testimonials for acne products showing the before and after effects and think “I would love to have that before face!” Because, to me, those before photos were always better than what my current situation had going on.

Those testimonials had normal acne. I didn’t just have the whiteheads, blackheads, or the oily yet somehow dry and flaky skin (but yes, I had all of that), I also had to endure the painful module acne that resides deep in your pores and are much, much larger than your normal acne and takes much, much, much more time to clear.

By age 22 I was becoming hopeless. I had already been struggling for five years and there seemed to be no end in sight. Since no medications were working I decided to search for a more natural way to fight this relentless battle.

ACV: My Initial Thoughts

Out of pure desperation, I decided to give ACV a try. Put vinegar on my face? It smells awful, is that what I will smell like? So what if I became smelly? I already lacked confidence. What’s one more thing to be self-conscious of? Smelly vinegar face, here I come!

Yes, it does initially smell. But once it dries the smell dissipates (or so my husband tells me). So, you want to know what happened? IT WORKED! ACV has become a miracle for me. It gave me back my face, my self-confidence, my glow, my life.

If you are struggling with stubborn acne and feel like you, too, have tried everything please just try this! It’s affordable AND natural, so it should be better than all the other chemicals you are slathering on your face with no luck, right?

Please make sure you are using the organic, raw, and unfiltered ACV with The Mother. I cannot stress this enough.

ACV Toner For Acne

OK, so here is what you do.

Step 1: Wash your wash. This is a pretty self-explanatory step. Remove the daily crud from your face and clean out your pores to allow the ACV to move on in! I have sensitive skin, so I like to use mild cleansers, but still something that is acne-related.

My all-time favorite: CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser. I use this with my Clarisonic for an even deeper clean. I use the  Acne Cleansing Head for a gentler cleaning.

Step 2, mix 1/4 ACV with 3/4 water (I like to use a travel size container, easy to find anywhere!) Use a cotton ball to apply the ACV toner to your clean face. Let this dry, then continue with your moisturizer (if you use one). My current favorite: Coola Matte Sunscreen. It has SPF 30, really helps control my daily shine, and doesn’t cause me any breakouts. Also, it feels like you are putting a cloud on your face. It is so silky smooth and light.

**If you have sensitive skin and notice the ACV toner is too strong for you (meaning, it burns or stings a little) try adding more water to create a gentler toner.

Step 3, get used to the short-lived smell. The smell is fine, I promise. A temporary smell is worth a full-time glow, right? Once it dries the smell is gone!

ACV for Acne: The Outcome

Five years later ACV is the staple product to my beauty routine; the absolute one thing I never miss in a day. I am not saying this will be a miracle for everyone who tries it, but I am telling you, for me, it worked. So maybe it can work for you, too.

I am also not saying I never get pimples anymore. Because I sometimes do. But 99.9% of the time I know any normal pimple that shows up on my face is my fault. I have a bad habit of falling asleep on my couch without first undergoing my nightly beauty routine. Oops…

I also have an impulse to try new beauty products (i.e. makeup, face washes, etc.) My face doesn’t always like that.

One normal pimple every now and then is a piece of cake after years of stubborn acne. I now know I can handle any pimple that comes my way with confidence. I no longer hide behind my hair or stay home to avoid feeling embarrassed in public. I no longer think someone is staring at me and judging me for having those evil and bulging masses on my cheeks.

ACV changed my life. Give it a try for yourself and let me know what you think!

Any more questions about my ACV beauty routine? Comment or feel free to email me!

Hi Elaiza! I would go if you’re struggling that much! I did about 10 years ago and the medication I was given cleared my horrible acne up but it, unfortunately, came back once I stopped using it. Apple cider vinegar has really helped me keep my acne under control in a natural way, maybe give this a try too! Good luck! I know it’s so painful!

This is one of the best historical fiction books I’ve ever read (listened to, thank you @netgalley). If you have the chance to get your hands on this one, READ IT!

It doesn’t just tell you what happened in history, it truly makes you feel it. It educates you and moves you all at the same time. Thank you @tammyehuf I’ll read anything you write.

My #ThoughtDaughter book stack from July—the month I tried to pick a theme that resonated the most with me. My standouts: Alone With You In The Ether, The Virgin Suicides, and My Year Of Rest and Relaxation which I think about every time I buy an iced coffee and consider buying a second. #bookstagram #bookstack #myyearofrestandrelaxation #alonewithyouintheether
