How To Add Light With Mirrors in The Kitchen

I cannot get enough natural light in my home.

If I could, I would have a window on each and every wall.

But, when you share walls with your neighbors that tends to be a bit impossible.

Solution: fake the natural light!

Before I started my DIY kitchen makeover I took care of one bare wall that screamed for some kind of decor. Being the natural light lover that I am, I chose to hang mirrors on the wall to mimic windows and bring more light into the kitchen.

The light from the French doors beside this particular wall bounces off the mirrors and illuminates light throughout the kitchen more so than ever. I couldn’t be happier.

I set out on a mission to find mirrors that mimicked windows, and when I wasn’t having much luck finding exactly what I wanted I contemplated using real windows and transforming them into mirrors by using this great DIY trick.

But alas, my favorite store pulled through: Home Goods.

Although color-wise they weren’t AT ALL what I wanted (brown trim with blue handles) I’ve never been afraid to add some paint to something I see great potential in.

With the majority of my home being varying hues of white and grey, of course that is what I chose for this project.

I went with my favorite paint brand that I have used for countless projects.

I painted the trim pure white and the handles light grey. The mirrors turned out exactly how I envisioned them.

Of course, you don’t need to go as far as I did and paint mirrors you find. But it always helps when you want to transform something into a piece that is exactly what you want for your home!
