How to Have Clear Skin - Tips for a Clear Complexion

Clear skin can sometimes seem like an unreachable dream. Acne can be so frustrating, stubborn, embarrassing, painful…it’s at the heart and center of self-consciousness. I would know. I was a huge acne sufferer for so much of my life. From ages 15-23 I struggled to find a way to achieve clear skin. All I wanted was to contain and banish those painful bumps on my face. I would be fooled with short doses of clear skin only to be heartbroken and reunited with awful acne. As much as you try not to let it bother you, it always does.

While I suffered over the years I experimented with more products, remedies, and diets than I would like to remember. I researched and tried beauty routines that helped other acne victims. From years and years of trial and error I found a regimen that worked best for me and my problem skin. My DIY regimen keeps my acne at bay; nonexistent most days.  And the rare pimples that I get are so minor and easy to clear.

When I find products and regimens that I think could be beneficial to fellow acne sufferers I can’t help but share. After all, it was the stories and testimonies I researched and read over the years that lead me to find my acne cure. If my clear skin process can help even one other acne sufferer, then this post is well worth the time.

If you’ve taken the time to read my DIY acne cure, you’ve noticed that a major key to my success is by using an apple cider vinegar toner. This is step 2 in my acne proofing process. Step 1 is using a great cleanser. I’ve tried so many cleaners; a lot left my face red, dry, flaky…not good. Finding a great cleanser can really depend on your skin type. I have oily and sensitive skin. Unfortunately, cleansers for acne prone skin can be too harsh for sensitive skin and end up doing more bad than good. Because of this, I have developed a serious phobia of trying new cleansers.

Introducing Neutrogena® Acne Proofing™ Daily Cleanser and Daily Scrub. At first wash, I noticed a few things about the Daily Cleanser: the scent is so light and fresh, it lathered really well (especially with use of my Clarasonic), and it left my face feeling squeaky clean without feeling over-stripped and tight (I know you know the feeling). I continued to use the Daily Cleanser twice a day, morning and night with the same results. It wasn’t drying out my skin or causing redness. Too good to be true? That’s what I thought, but this product is still giving me the same gentle and effective results.

A few nights a week (2-3) I use the Daily Scrub to help further reveal clearer and smoother skin. The Daily Scrub is not too harsh or abrasive on my sensitive skin. It’s a great balance of soft lather and exfoliating scrub. For anyone who has never used a face scrub, maybe out of fear it may cause more damage and breakouts, think again! Face scrubs, when used properly, can be super beneficial to your skin.

A few benefits to using face scrubs:

  • Removes dead skin cells, dirt, and oil
  • Makes your skin flake free
  • Smooths out skin
  • Gives skin a much-needed glow
  • Aids in removing dark spots and acne scars

Please keep in mind: when using a face scrub, do not overuse. Face scrubs should not be used every day. If you have really sensitive skin start off by using a face scrub 1-2 times a week.

In conclusion: I am in love. The Acne Proofing™ products deliver on all aspects of my sensitive, acne prone skin needs, and the scent is a huge bonus. What acne sufferer hasn’t used a cleanser where you can smell the harsh chemicals. No thank you. This product is light, affordable, sensitive, and best of all it works.

Good luck on your skin clearing journey. Remember, it’s different for everyone, don’t ever give up!

This is one of the best historical fiction books I’ve ever read (listened to, thank you @netgalley). If you have the chance to get your hands on this one, READ IT!

It doesn’t just tell you what happened in history, it truly makes you feel it. It educates you and moves you all at the same time. Thank you @tammyehuf I’ll read anything you write.

My #ThoughtDaughter book stack from July—the month I tried to pick a theme that resonated the most with me. My standouts: Alone With You In The Ether, The Virgin Suicides, and My Year Of Rest and Relaxation which I think about every time I buy an iced coffee and consider buying a second. #bookstagram #bookstack #myyearofrestandrelaxation #alonewithyouintheether
