Of Fae and Wicked Kings by Jada McCrary | Audiobook Review
She tastes like sunshine and for a man whose lived in darkness for years it’s irresistible. – Of Fae and Wicked Kings
There is something almost cruel about how satisfying this novella was. It truly hurts that it isn’t a full-length novel. Of Fae and Wicked Kings had everything I love in a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers setup. And when I say enemies, I mean enemies on her side.
Because let’s be honest, that so-called villain? He was in love with her from the moment he saw her. This could have been a slow-burn masterpiece if stretched across hundreds of pages. That final earned kiss after endless tension? It would have been devastating in the best way.

Even as a novella, it absolutely works. It left me wanting so much more, not because it lacked anything, but because the potential is right there and it’s massive.
The dynamic between Gwyndolin and Aspen is completely charged. He’s arrogant, flirtatious, and dangerous. And as for her… she hates him. He antagonizes her. Calls her his “pet.” And yet every interaction between them feels like it’s seconds away from exploding in the best possible way.
I like to believe you can find the extraordinary anywhere if you know where to look. But I had no idea it wold lead me to you.
The quest to find the missing queen gives the story momentum, but the real hook is their emotional tension.
The audiobook elevated that tension even further. We first hear Gwyndolin and Rowan. She’s in love with him, but if I’m being honest, he gave me the ick when he told her how brave she was for going on this quest with him. My gut instinct never fails.
Then you hear Aspen’s voice… it’s dominating and dangerous. And you can’t help but think: yes. That just has to be the love interest!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If this ever becomes a full-length novel, I will happily be first in line.
