Why ‘Outlander’ is the Top TV Series to Watch This Autumn

October 11, 2023

Autumn has a special magic all its own. The cool, crisp air, the early evenings, and the brilliant canvas of red, orange, and gold leaves set the perfect atmosphere for tales of romance, time travel, and adventure. Enter ‘Outlander,’ a series of books penned by Diana Gabaldon and a stunning TV adaptation (just another book to film that I am obsessed with), making for an enthralling watch, especially in the heart of fall.

@julieejacks

We fell in love in October 🍁 another change from Outlander books to TV that i love is that the show begins in October, rather than May 🎃 and what about the ghost!!! #outlander #youlooklikeyouveseenaghost #outlanderbooktok #outlanderbookvstv #outlanderjamieandclaire #jamieandclairefraser

♬ we fell in love in october – girl in red

A change from the book to the screen adaptation of ‘Outlander’ that you get as soon as you hit ‘play’ is that the story begins in October, as opposed to May in the original narrative. This timing alone provides a reason to delve into the series during the autumn months. Yet, if you need more persuasion, here’s why ‘Outlander’ is the must-watch series of the Fall season. The Scottish Highlands & Fall Ambiance

Set mainly in 1740s Scotland, the show’s breathtaking landscapes with rugged mountains, lush moors, and ancient castles are reminiscent of autumn’s mystique. The way the cinematography captures the Highlands – with fog rolling over the mountains, the russet tones of the moors, and the dim, golden hue of torches – matches the fall aesthetic perfectly.

Layered Clothing & Historical Fashion

As temperatures drop, we all love cozying up in layered clothing. The costumes of ‘Outlander’ are a treat for historical fashion enthusiasts. The intricately designed tartans, cloaks, and gowns worn by the characters not only reflect the period’s style but also the functional warmth needed for Scottish weather. I’m OBSESSED with Claire’s Mobius Cowl (neck scarf).

Romance to Warm Your Heart

At the very core of the series lies the fiery romance between Claire, a WWII nurse with a modern sensibility, and Jamie, a gallant Scottish warrior deeply rooted in the traditions of his time. Their narrative, seamlessly interwoven with passion and a love that refuses to wane, is a timeless testament to the human spirit. On those brisk fall evenings, there’s seldom anything as comforting as a profound love story, and the tale of Claire and Jamie promises to envelop your soul in warmth, time and time again.

The Perfect Blend of Fantasy and Reality

The magical element of time travel fused with real historical events creates a delicate balance of fantasy and reality. Outlander expertly weaves the history, politics, and cultural tensions of the 18th century, allowing viewers to both learn and get lost in another time. Just as we appreciate the blend of reality and magic during Halloween and the harvest season, ‘Outlander’ offers a similar mix that keeps viewers on their toes.

Music That Resonates with the Season

Bear McCreary’s haunting score for the series evokes emotions fitting for the fall season. The show’s theme song, a rendition of “The Skye Boat Song,” has a melancholic yet hopeful tune that beautifully complements the spirit of autumn.

‘Outlander’ offers a multi-sensory experience that is in harmony with the fall season. The combination of riveting storytelling, picturesque landscapes, passionate romance, and soul-stirring music makes it the perfect series to binge-watch as you wrap yourself in a warm blanket with a cup of hot cocoa by your side. So, this fall, let the winds of the Scottish Highlands beckon you to a time-traveling adventure like no other.

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay

This is one of the best historical fiction books I’ve ever read (listened to, thank you @netgalley). If you have the chance to get your hands on this one, READ IT!

It doesn’t just tell you what happened in history, it truly makes you feel it. It educates you and moves you all at the same time. Thank you @tammyehuf I’ll read anything you write.

My #ThoughtDaughter book stack from July—the month I tried to pick a theme that resonated the most with me. My standouts: Alone With You In The Ether, The Virgin Suicides, and My Year Of Rest and Relaxation which I think about every time I buy an iced coffee and consider buying a second. #bookstagram #bookstack #myyearofrestandrelaxation #alonewithyouintheether
