Falling for Fun: 10 Fall Nature Crafts for Kids

September 20, 2023

Autumn is approaching, and there’s magic in the air! The leaves are turning shades of gold and red, and there’s a nip in the breeze (finally!!!). It’s the perfect time to get your little ones outdoors and embrace the beauty of fall — or, if your little ones are anything like mine you’re dragged outside from sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year.

Today, I’m sharing a list of ten creative and hands-on nature crafts to embrace the fall season with your little ones. These activities aren’t just fun – they’re also a wonderful way to teach children about the wonders of the season. As we explore these crafts, I’ll be using this blog post as a personal checklist for my own kids. So, gather your craft supplies, and let’s delve into 10 fabulous fall nature crafts for kids!

1. Leafy Wreath Wonderland

Gather a variety of colorful fall leaves and help your kids create a stunning leaf wreath. Use a paper plate as a base, glue the leaves in a circular pattern, and finish with a festive ribbon. Hang it proudly on your front door!

2. Pinecone Friends

Pinecones are the perfect canvas for creativity. Transform them into adorable forest creatures by adding googly eyes, pipe cleaner antennae, and felt wings. Who can resist these cute critters?

3. Acorn Masterpieces

Head outside to collect acorns, then bring them indoors to paint and decorate. You can turn them into miniature animals, superheroes, or even tiny astronauts. Let your kids’ imaginations run wild!

4. Twig-tastic Picture Frames

Gather twigs of various lengths and help your little ones assemble them into rustic picture frames. Add a favorite fall photo or artwork, and you’ve got an instant masterpiece to display.

5. Rockin’ Rock Pumpkins

Find smooth, flat rocks and paint them bright orange. Once they dry, add green stems on top, transforming them into the cutest rock pumpkins ever. They make fantastic paperweights or garden decorations!

6. Magical Scavenger Hunt

Create a fall-themed scavenger hunt list for your kids. Include items like “a yellow leaf,” “a pinecone,” and “a feather.” Challenge them to explore the outdoors and find each treasure on the list.

7. Bird Feeder Bonanza

Combine craft time with a little bit of birdwatching. Help your kids create bird feeders using pinecones, peanut butter, and birdseed. Hang them in your yard and watch as feathered friends flock to enjoy a snack.

8. Bark Rubbings Art

Lay a piece of paper over tree bark and let your kids rub crayons over it to reveal intricate textures and patterns. It’s like making art straight from nature’s sketchbook!

9. Harvest-Time Suncatchers

Collect colorful fall leaves, arrange them between sheets of wax paper, and iron them together. The result? Beautiful suncatchers that will brighten any window in your home.

10. Nature-Inspired Storytime

Take a break from crafting and gather under a tree or by a cozy fireplace. Share a favorite fall-themed book and let your kids’ imaginations soar as they dive into stories of autumn adventures!

“All fame cost her was everything.” 🎸✨💋
Darkening Song by Delphine Seddon was such a fun read. When I saw it being placed in the same space as #daisyjonesandthesix I immediately requested this ARC. Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress — I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
