DIY Wedding Flowers

December 3, 2017

diy wedding flowers

I had a really hard time deciding on flowers for my DIY wedding. Not the type, I’ve always been obsessed with peonies, which seems to be a trend. A very pretty trend, too. I was in a strong debate with myself on whether I should purchase artificial flowers and put them together myself, or design real arrangements with a local florist.

As some of you may know, I only gave myself six months to plan my wedding. I didn’t do ALL the planning immediately, which meant I allowed details that I couldn’t decide on to fall into the back of my mind, causing me to make fast decisions at a date far too close to the wedding. I work best under pressure, apparently. I was afraid if I used artificial for mine and my bridesmaid’s bouquets, as well as the groom and groomsmen’s boutonnieres it would be too noticeably fake and look tacky. I stressed far too much about this.

Then I found the website of my DIY Wedding dreams: Afloral. I was skeptical at first – buying artificial flowers online, without ever seeing or touching them in person, but being told to believe they look and feel real? And they even coined them with the name “real-touch”? This seemed like quite the risk for such a budget conscious bride. On any given day, I can walk into a craft store with a coupon and purchase numerous fake flowers for very little money. But somehow, I found myself searching online and looking at fake flowers costing more per stem then I would pay per bundle at said craft store. Luckily, I don’t mind taking risks.

This is my DIY Wedding, after all! So why spend so much money on fake flowers that give the appearance of being real? Why not just buy the inexpensive ones? Why not just buy the real things? Well, the difference is the craft store flowers look and feel fake. The real-touch by Afloral undeniably do not. Depending on the size of your wedding, you (probably) may still be spending less on the fake real-touch flowers. But the number one reason: you can keep them forever!

My bridesmaid’s bouquets are both in vases in my living room, while my bouquet is out on display in my office. No one could believe these flowers were fake. Especially when they held them. They are so gorgeous in person, and they really, absolutely, without a doubt feel real! I remember the day they arrived at my home. My husband held them and said how crazy it was that they were fake, but felt so real.

After making and receiving my Afloral purchase, I could finally be relaxed about flowers. I put together the bouquets and boutonnieres (with my fabulous sister-in law) two weeks prior to my wedding. My stress level was at an all-time low. I no longer had to worry about putting together real flowers the night before or day of the wedding. And like I said, you get to keep them forever. I am reminded daily of my beautiful wedding day just by looking at the flowers around my home.

The flowers I used:

  • Real Touch Peony in Pink with Cream
  • Real Touch Mini Peony Bundle in Cream White
  • Real Touch Mini Peony Bundle in Pink
  • Real Touch Peony Stem in Cream
  • Real Touch Peony Stem in Pink
  • Silk Flower Sophia Open Rose
  • Silk Rose Stem Pastel Peach
  • Flocked Lambs Ear Leaf Spray
  • Artificial Seeded Eucalyptus
  • Blush Pink Silk Ribbon (I LOVE this)

My Afloral purchase was one of the best DIY Wedding decisions I made.

Would you use fake flowers for your wedding? Have you used fake flowers for your wedding? Let me know what you think!

As a serial highlighter and tabber, this book would have been ABSOLUTELY COVERED in little tabs if it was a physical copy. My Kindle highlights will have to suffice until pub day (June 2027) because I have so many thoughts.

the ghosts, the art, the wasps, the homewrecking…

This book was strange, sad, funny, beautifully unsettling, and somehow incredibly comforting all at once… and I loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My full review ⚠️with spoilers ⚠️ is up on the blog!

Thank you @netgalley @spiegelandgrau @beckymandelbaum for this amazing ARC!
