How To DIY Your Own Pumpkinhead & 31 Pumpkinhead Photo Ideas

September 4, 2022

Today we are sharing some of our favorite pumpkin head photo ideas for this Halloween season. Honestly, I never considered the idea of a pumpkin head photoshoot mainly because the only images of pumpkin heads that came to my mind were 1. the “horror movie” Pumpkinhead and 2. Dwight Schrute from The Office.

But then I found and followed @autumnrainn on TikTok. Last year she and her husband did a Pumpkinhead photo shoot that was an absolute Halloween dream. (She is full of photo ideas so make sure to give her a follow!) Another account that continuously does pumpkin head and all things Halloween is @kjp. His account is the quintessential Halloween vibe.

You might be wondering, “Why wear a pumpkin on my head?” Well, why not? Imagine strolling through the pumpkin patch or joining a cozy autumn gathering with this delightful creation perched atop your noggin. It’s like a wearable piece of fall charm that instantly spreads smiles and sets the stage for laughter and memorable moments.

Here’s how to embrace the pumpkin head trend and craft your own:

Materials You’ll Need:

  • A medium-sized pumpkin (real or faux, your call!)
  • A sharp knife or pumpkin carving tools
  • A scoop or spoon for cleaning out the pumpkin
  • Paints, markers, or other decorative materials
  • Elastic cord or ribbon

Step-by-Step Pumpkin-Head Guide:

Creating a Pumpkinhead for yourself requires a little work and it can be a little heavy, but it’s totally doable for anyone (and it’s worth it!).

  1. Prep Your Pumpkin: If using a real pumpkin, carve off the top and clean out the insides. If using a faux pumpkin, skip this step – easy peasy!
  2. Carve a Face: Get creative and carve a charming or goofy face on the front of your pumpkin. Triangle eyes, a cute nose, and a wide grin are classic choices.
  3. Add Personality: Use paints, markers, or even glued-on decorations to give your pumpkin head its unique personality. Add rosy cheeks, freckles, or even a bow tie for extra flair.
  4. Secure the Strap: Attach a piece of elastic cord or ribbon to both sides of the pumpkin, creating a strap that goes under your chin to keep your pumpkin head securely in place.
  5. Adorn Yourself: Pop your pumpkin head on, and voilà – you’ve just elevated your fall fashion game to a whole new level of whimsy! Watch heads turn as you spread autumn joy wherever you go.

Whether you’re celebrating Halloween, heading to a fall festival, or just looking to sprinkle a little pumpkin magic into your everyday life, the pumpkin head is here to deliver smiles and endless fun. Plus, it’s a fantastic DIY project that you can do with friends, family, or even solo.

“All fame cost her was everything.” 🎸✨💋
Darkening Song by Delphine Seddon was such a fun read. When I saw it being placed in the same space as #daisyjonesandthesix I immediately requested this ARC. Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress — I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
