The Sun and the Starmaker Audiobook Review: A Lyrical Romantasy by Rachel Griffin
It is complicated to want you. Your very existence is ending mine, and yet, I would rather die having known you than live a thousand lives as strangers. – The Sun and The Star Maker
The audiobook read 8% complete when I texted my best friend to let her know I was “already locked in and invested” in this story. That feeling never wavered, only increased as I listened to the remaining 92%. There are some books you read, and then there are books you fall deeply into. This was truly the latter.
This is the perfect kind of romantasy for me. This book filled my soul with such a gentle, whimsical, and magical type of love. The kind that builds slowly, softly, and then suddenly feels impossible to live without.

The Sun and The Starmaker Synopsis
The Sun and The Starmaker is set in a small village in the snowy mountains called Reverie. Cut off from the Sun, the village depends entirely on the magic of the Starmaker, who each morning pulls sunlight across the mountain peaks to the village.
When our FMC Aurora Finch crosses paths with the Starmaker on the morning of her wedding, her life changes in an instant. Discovering that she holds the powerful magic tied to the survival of the village, she is swept away to his frozen castle, away from her family and her world she has always known.
And from there, the story becomes something deeply intimate and emotionally layered.

The Sun and The Starmaker Review
This book is a lyrical and incredibly tender love story. The romance unfolds in such a gentle way, it almost feels like a whisper but with all the weight of the world attached.
There is something so beautiful about watching two souls who firecly guard their hearts slowly begin to see one another clearly. The Starmaker is distant, secretive, and emotionally frozen in more ways than one, while Aurora carries warmth, stubborn curiosity, and a quiet strength that begins to thaw his walls he has built to protect himself.
Their connection feels inevitable and yet so fragile. The emotional pull between them felt magnetic like destiny, and I found myself completely invested in their story well before either of them fully understood what they meant to one another.
It is the kind of romantasy that feels easy to sink into while still delivering such an original and detailed experience.
The Sun and The Starmaker Audiobook Review
I experienced this story through the audiobook, and it truly was the most perfect way to consume it. All because of the narrator. I was so captivated by the narrator’s voice that I actually paused my listening to search for other books she has narrated.
She captures the emotional and lyrical quality needed for this type of gentle romantasy. The softness of her delivery perfectly mirrors the gentle unfolding of the romance. The story balances wonder with tension beautifully, and the audiobook feels both comforting and quietly suspenseful.
The Sun and The Starmaker Final Thoughts
This is a perfect story for readers who love romantasy filled with emotional depth, stunning prose, magic, and a slow-burning romance.
It is soft, ruinous, hopeful, and deeply emotional without ever feeling too heavy. It is the kind of story that settles gently into your heart and mind and stays there long after the final chapter ends.
Stories like this remind me why I read in the first place. There is something quietly special about books that allow you believe in magic again. Not necessarily the kind built from spells, but the enduring kind that exists in the delicate balance of connection, hope, and love.
And truly… I am still thinking about it nonstop.
