We Met Like This Review: A Fun and Heartfelt Romance by Kasie West

December 2, 2025

The banter, the emotional growth, and the undeniable chemistry between the main characters – We Met Like This by Kasie Westended up being impossible for me to put down.

While I never want to judge a book purely by its cover (but let’s get real, we all do it–right?), I did find myself putting this one off longer than I should have simply because I didn’t feel an immediate connection to the cover.

What I found when I finally opened this book was pure sunshine. This story was light, playful, and completely engrossing from start to finish. Needless to say, Kasie West delivered a heartfelt contemporary romance and I flew through it.

What We Met Like This Is About (Spoiler-Free)

We Met Like This follows Margot, a dreamer who often leads with her heart instead of logic. When she reconnects with Oliver, their relationship quickly sparks with playful sarcasm and undeniable chemistry.

I adored the dynamic between Margot and Oliver. They spoke the same language: sarcasm. Their playful exchanges added both humor and emotional intimacy to the story, making their relationship feel undeniably authentic and fun to watch unfold.

Beyond the romance, I really appreciated Margot’s personal journey. Her struggles with self-worth and her professional path gave the story more depth and emotional grounding.

Oliver’s character also felt thoughtfully developed. His occasional standoffish behavior wasn’t framed as simple moodiness, but as a result of genuine emotional wounds from the past. That vulnerability made his character feel more realistic.

Audrey (Margot’s perfect sister) created an interesting contrast to Margot, and honestly, I found her annoying and frustrating in a way that felt so intentional. The tension surrounding her added stakes to Margot and Oliver’s relationship, making me want to throw the book across the room (in the best way possible, of course).

There was a twist which added a layer of tension, and while I eventually sensed it coming, it still was quite the emotional shock when it was confirmed.

We Met Like This Review: Final Thoughts

I think I loved this book so much because I found myself drawn to Margot as a character. She is consistently described as someone who dreams big, lives in her imagination, and tends to lead with feelings rather than strict logic. That trait felt so deeply relatable to me.

Overall, We Met Like This was a five-star read for me. Humor, emotional depth, and a romance that felt both fun and meaningful. Honestly, what more could I want?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you enjoy contemporary romance novels filled with banter, emotional growth, and lovable characters, We Met Like This by Kasie West is absolutely worth reading. This was my first experience reading Kasie West, and it definitely made me excited to pick up more of her books.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review We Met Like This.

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
