Bigfoot Fever: Is My Toddler the Only One Obsessed?

September 6, 2023

I don’t know what happened. My nature-loving 4-year-old accidentally stumbled on a Bigfoot show (for kids, but obviously older) while watching his usual nature-loving content and was pretty much afraid to sleep for three solid months. We even had to dismantle the tent in his room out of fear Bigfoot would be in there.

Today, there is a new and bigger tent in his room (really, it’s huge — we all comfortably fit in it), Bigfoot stickers adorning his water bottle, bed, bike, etc., Bigfoot t-shirts, and of course Bigfoot kid’s books. He’s completely OBSESSED with Bigfoot. Yes, you heard it right. We went from can’t sleep because of Bigfoot to can’t sleep without Bigfoot. It’s both hilarious and intriguing.

Imaginary Bigfoot adventures are a daily affair, and I even get to attend “Bigfoot School” where he teaches me everything he knows (and everything he completely makes up) about Bigfoot. It got me wondering… are other kids his age into Bigfoot too?

As I delved into this ‘hairy’ question, I found out we’re not alone! It seems like our little humans are quite fascinated by the legendary creature. Bigfoot, with his elusive nature and mysterious background, seems to intrigue their imaginative minds.

So, if your kiddo has caught the Bigfoot fever like mine, embrace the wild, mysterious ride. Dive into these books, go on imaginary Bigfoot hunts, and cherish the giggles and excitement. After all, it’s these quirky phases that make parenting such a fun journey!

Bigfoot Books for Kids

Back to School with Bigfoot by Samantha Berger

If you’re prepping for the big school start or are in the middle of the school year, this is a must-have. It captures the challenges Bigfoot faces, like fitting in (quite literally) and finding shoes for those big feet. It’s a light-hearted and humourous way to talk about feeling different and finding one’s place, even if you’re a little…well, hairier than everyone else.

How to Spot a Sasquatch by Samantha Berger

This one is a nonstop adventure, but it was a little too long for my four-year-old in one sitting. However, breaking it up throughout the day or over multiple days is a great way to keep their interest. Your kid will be glued, learning the dos and don’ts of Sasquatch spotting. Just be ready for a few camping trips in your living room and backyard (during the day, of course).

Larf by Ashley Spires

This delightful tale is of Larf, a lone Sasquatch who believes he’s the only one of his kind. The journey of finding a friend is heartwarming, teaching kids about loneliness, friendship, and reaching out.

Get Dressed, Sasquatch! by Kyle Sullivan

If you have a little one who’s not keen on wearing clothes (like my two-year-old can be at times), this book is for you. It’s a hilarious account of a park ranger trying to get Sasquatch to put on some clothes. Spoiler: It’s not as easy as it sounds! My librarian told me this was a really good book when we checked it out — 100% she was right.

Until next time, keep an eye out for those big footprints in your backyard, and happy reading! 🦶🏽

“All fame cost her was everything.” 🎸✨💋
Darkening Song by Delphine Seddon was such a fun read. When I saw it being placed in the same space as #daisyjonesandthesix I immediately requested this ARC. Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress — I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
