New Year’s Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

January 1, 2018

New Years

Did you know only about 8% of people actually keep their New Year’s Resolutions? Yikes. So why are we all proclaiming resolutions if most of us are never, ever going to keep them? Here’s why: establishing resolutions make us feel good about ourselves. We feel like we are going to make life changes in this upcoming year to better ourselves; physically, mentally, and/or spiritually. Whatever the reason may be, resolutions are created to help rid ourselves of bad habits and (hopefully) create better, healthier, happier habits. If you are not part of that slim 8% that keep their resolutions, here are a few simple resolutions I am creating for myself this year that you can adopt as well!

New Years

Drink More Water

This sounds like such a simple task, so why do many of us fail so miserably each day to do this? There are ideal times throughout your day you should be drinking the most water: when you first wake up, before bed, before meals, before and after you work out. I always wake up thirsty, so I have mastered the glass of water first thing in the morning. But after that, I can be quite the slacker.

If you need extra motivation to help accomplish this resolution, get yourself a fun water bottle that you will want to use and carry with you every day! I chose this one here: Kate Spade New York Water Bottle.

New Years

Get Up on Time

Ever since the weather has changed from warm and sunny to dark and cold, I have been struggling majorly with this one. I’m so guilty of hitting my snooze button until I have to scramble and rush out of the house with too much dry shampoo in my hair because I didn’t have the proper amount of time to wash it. I then drive on the highway and get angry at all the nonchalant cars who are obviously not in a rush and are inevitably in my way. Had I only gotten up on time I wouldn’t start my day rushing and feeling angry at other innocent drivers. I could be one of those relaxed drivers – with clean hair, too.

Place your alarm clock across the room to help you fight the urge to hit snooze and roll back over into sleep.

New Years

Be More Thankful

I used to go to bed and write down 10 things I was thankful for that day. I used to feel uplifted after this – I was crazy to stop such an inspiring task. It’s so easy to find things to be thankful for if you really take the time to be appreciative of your day. They can be as simple as “thankful that the Starbucks line wasn’t long this morning.” If 10 things become too much of a challenge, start by only writing down 3 things. Or, don’t have a limit; all days are different. Plus, this is your resolution, tailor this to your needs.

New Years

Make Time for Self-Care

If you can’t decide on any resolutions, I recommend this one! Self-care is so important to function properly; both physically and mentally. This resolution is open to many ideas and interpretations, depending on what your self-care needs are. It can be easy to neglect YOU when you have so many other things going on. Family, friends, work, school, etc. This year, take care of yourself more. Some self-care ideas can be: take more baths, a weekly face mask, paint nails more often, practice yoga, take a daily walk, take more naps, go to bed early, plan your outfit the night before, dress up more often, binge watch a TV show, watch more movies. The options are truly limitless.

Happy New Years! What are your 2018 resolutions?

I like the idea of making resolutions that you pretty much can’t fail. I don’t make specific resolutions in general because failure is guaranteed when I put so much pressure on myself! These, I can do and succeed at though.

Agreed! And then you don’t have to feel so bad about yourself for failing. Good luck!

I didn’t really make any resolutions because I’m generally so bad at keeping them! 🙂 But I like the “drink more water” idea. I think I can do that. Also, I would love to try to eat more whole, non-processed foods. I think I can do that. It’s so important for improving your health, and that’s a major focus for me right now.

Being more thankful is a really great goal to set. I’m going to start writing them down before bed, as you suggest. Thanks for sharing this great post 🙂

“All fame cost her was everything.” 🎸✨💋
Darkening Song by Delphine Seddon was such a fun read. When I saw it being placed in the same space as #daisyjonesandthesix I immediately requested this ARC. Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress — I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
